Second-user laptops

Refurbished business laptops

Business laptops like the Lenovo ThinkPad, Dell Latitude and HP EliteBook are built for years of daily use, with sturdy chassis, good keyboards and easy servicing. Large numbers come back from company fleets every year, and after a wipe and refurb they make excellent second-user machines.

Every laptop here has a processor on Microsoft's supported list for Windows 11, an SSD and at least 8GB of RAM.

What to check on a refurbished laptop

  • Processor generation. For Windows 11 with ongoing updates, choose Intel 8th generation or newer (model numbers like i5-8xxx, i5-10xxx, i5-1135G7). Why this matters.
  • Battery. Batteries wear with age. Look for a stated battery health or a replacement battery, and expect less runtime than when new.
  • Keyboard layout. Ex-fleet stock comes from all over the world. Check the listing says UK layout if you want a £ key and a UK Enter key.
  • Screen. Full HD (1920×1080) is far nicer than the older 1366×768 panels. Check for touch if you need it.
  • Grade and guarantee. Refurbished grades aren't standardised, so read what the seller means. Amazon UK backs Renewed products with a one-year repair, replacement or money-back guarantee.

Questions about refurbished laptops

Is a refurbished laptop as good as new?

Not as good as new, but often better than a new budget laptop for the same money. A three- or four-year-old business laptop usually has a faster processor, better build quality and a better keyboard than an entry-level new machine. The trade-offs are battery wear and some cosmetic marks.

Will it come with Windows?

Most refurbished business laptops ship with Windows 11 Pro installed. Check the listing, and make sure the processor is on Microsoft's supported list so it keeps getting updates.

Has the old owner's data been wiped?

Reputable refurbishers wipe every drive before resale, and typically reinstall Windows from scratch. It's still good practice to check the machine starts from a clean Windows setup.
