About SecondByte IT
A guide to the second-user IT market: buying refurbished, and making sure retired business kit gets a second life.
Why this site exists
Huge numbers of perfectly good business laptops and PCs are retired every year, often on a fixed refresh schedule rather than because they've stopped working. Wiped and refurbished, they give students, families, charities and small businesses a reliable computer for far less than new, and they keep the carbon and materials that went into making them in use.
SecondByte IT covers both sides of that market: how to buy second-user IT safely, and how organisations can retire IT so that it's reused rather than scrapped.
Who runs it
SecondByte IT is run by Steven Smith, who has worked in IT for over 30 years, including more than a decade in IT asset disposal. Steven also owns Green ITAD, an independent UK directory of IT recycling and ITAD companies, and works for Revolve ITAD Solutions, an ITAD company in West Yorkshire. We mention both on this site because they're part of the same story, and we want you to know about the connection.
How we choose products
We list refurbished ("Renewed") business-grade laptops and desktop PCs from Amazon UK. We only include machines whose processors are on Microsoft's supported list for Windows 11 (Intel 8th generation or newer), with an SSD and at least 8GB of RAM, and we prefer UK keyboard layouts. Specs come from the Amazon listing; we haven't tested these machines hands-on, and refurbished stock changes quickly, so always check the listing before you buy.
How the site is funded
Product links go to Amazon UK and are affiliate links. If you buy through one, we may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. Links to Green ITAD and Revolve ITAD are ordinary links, not affiliate links. Read the full disclosure.
