For businesses, schools & public sector
Retiring business IT? Give it a second life.
Every laptop, PC and server your organisation retires can become someone else's affordable, reliable machine, as long as it's collected securely, wiped properly and refurbished rather than shredded by default.
The responsible route
What good IT disposal looks like
IT asset disposal (ITAD) is more than recycling. Done properly, it protects your data, recovers value and keeps working hardware in use.
Plan & release
List what's going, and release devices from Intune, Entra ID or Apple Business Manager so they can be reused.
YouSecure collection
Equipment is counted and signed for at your door, starting a documented chain of custody.
ITAD partnerCertified data wipe
Drives are wiped to a recognised standard (such as NIST SP 800-88 Purge), or shredded if they fail. You get certificates.
ITAD partnerRefurbish first
Working machines are tested, graded and remarketed to second users. That's the best environmental and financial outcome.
Second-user marketRecycle the rest
What can't be reused is broken down for parts and materials through licensed recyclers, with reports for your ESG records.

Your responsibilities, in brief
- Data protection. Under UK GDPR you must keep personal data secure, and the ICO says that includes how you dispose of IT equipment. Its guidance is blunt: if you use a third party to erase and dispose of equipment, make sure they do it adequately, because "you will be held responsible if personal data collected by you is extracted from your old equipment if it is resold". A reformat alone is not enough.
- Waste duty of care. Old IT is waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE). Check your waste carrier is registered, and complete a waste transfer note for each load and keep it for two years. Some screens and IT equipment containing persistent organic pollutants (POPs) count as hazardous waste, which needs a consignment note instead.
- Reuse first. The duty of care asks you to do everything you reasonably can to prevent, reuse, recycle or recover waste, and government WEEE guidance says reuse of whole appliances should be prioritised.
- Evidence. Keep serial-level records: what left, when, who took it, and the certificate that proves the data was destroyed.
Before you hand anything over, check the company's waste carrier registration and environmental permits on the public registers. Green ITAD does much of this checking for you. The NCSC also suggests using disposal companies with recognised certifications such as ADISA.

Where to start
Two ways to get your IT collected
Revolve ITAD Solutions
Based in Sowerby Bridge, West Yorkshire, Revolve collects business IT across mainland Great Britain and puts data destruction at the centre of the process.
- Collections are usually free when equipment has resale value. Revolve quotes up front when a load has none.
- Data wiped to NIST SP 800-88 Rev. 2 Purge using PartedMagic or Blancco. Failed drives are degaussed or shredded, on site if needed, with certificates of destruction.
- Refurbish first, then parts recovery, then materials recycling. Revolve states nothing goes to landfill.
- Technology buyback for batches of 10+ identical Windows 11-compatible Dell, HP or Lenovo laptops. Servers, storage and networking kit are assessed case by case.
- Environment Agency upper-tier waste carrier (CBDU622766), T11 WEEE exemption (EXP/AP3843JV), ICO registered (ZC107193).

Green ITAD
Not near Yorkshire, or want to compare options? Green ITAD is a free, independent UK directory and map of IT recycling and IT asset disposal companies.
- Search by postcode, sorted by distance to each company's nearest site.
- Filter for free collection, drop-off, data destruction, refurbishment, or companies that accept equipment from individuals.
- Licences such as waste carrier registrations, T11 exemptions and AATF approvals are checked against the regulators' public registers where possible, and labelled as verified or as stated by the company.
- Nobody can pay to be listed or to move up the results.

Common questions
Is IT collection really free?
Often, yes, when the equipment has resale value. Refurbishing and reselling working kit pays for the collection and processing. Very old or broken equipment (dead printers, CRT screens, water-damaged kit) may carry a charge. A good ITAD company tells you up front.
Should we remove the hard drives before collection?
Not normally. Pulling drives reduces resale value and breaks the chain of custody for those drives. A certified ITAD company wipes drives to a recognised standard and gives you a certificate. If your policy requires physical destruction, ask for drives to be shredded, on site if necessary.
What reduces the value of our old laptops?
Devices still enrolled in Intune, Entra ID, Apple Business Manager or similar management tools can't be resold, so release them before collection. Missing chargers, screen damage, mixed specifications and engraved asset tags also reduce value.
What about personal or home computers?
Green ITAD's directory lets you filter for companies that accept equipment from individuals, as well as drop-off points. Remember to back up and reset the device first.
